General Accountability
The Registrar’s Office (RO) is involved in all aspects of academic life, including
marketing for undergraduate student recruitment and admissions, enrolment, examinations,
development and application of academic policies, and convocation.
The office leads the development, execution, and evaluation of marketing strategies aimed at
recruitment of highly qualified undergraduate students; timely admission of highly qualified
undergraduate applicants; secure production and maintenance of accurate student records on
which the University’s grant claim is based; the administration of provincial student
aid and bursaries; the administration of uWaterloo's locally administered financial aid
guarantee; the management of merit-based scholarships and awards; financial aid counselling;
prudent use of classroom space through the creation of class schedules that support the
multi-disciplinary character of the curriculum and the interests of students; the creation
of the examination timetable and the administration of final examinations; the organization
and execution of convocation ceremonies; and a central source of information, help and services
as they relate to these tasks and responsibilities.
Marketing & Undergraduate Recruitment (M & UR) is a strategic unit, which manages
and leverages research to conduct the majority of the uWaterloo’s marketing activities.
M & UR also plays a leadership role in leveraging the University’s positioning and
visual identity frameworks to create high-quality, innovative marketing initiatives.
The Manager, College Pathways Development ("the Manager") is a member of
Marketing & Undergraduate Recruitment (M& UR) unit of the RO, co-ordinating all
Pathways initiatives within uWaterloo and liaising with contact persons at partner Ontario
Colleges with which there are articular agreements.
The Manager undertakes or commissions ongoing analysis and research to support established agreements
and leads feasibility studies for potential new agreements.
The Manager, in concert with campus champions, brokers new bilateral or multilateral articulation
agreements with Ontario Colleges. S/he also plays a role in shaping plans for student transition
and success initiatives.
Travel within Ontario is required.

Specific Accountabilities
- Research and develop a strategic plan targeted at Ontario College transfer student
recruitment that satisfies uWaterloo’s obligations specified in the annual plan approved
by the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities.
- Work with the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer to provide leadership in
the development and ongoing enhancement of post-secondary education credit transfer policies and practices in Ontario.
- Initiate new bilateral and multilateral articulation agreements with Ontario Colleges.
- Seek out and work with faculty/programs to research, establish, negotiate, monitor,
ensure success, and evaluate articulation agreements
- Create a strategic plan for benchmarking and establish key performance indicators for
each faculty/program agreement, including the overall plan.
- Develop and manage a University-wide tracking and reporting system to manage articulation agreements.
- Establish and lead a Strategic Council to advise on the strategy, report on achieving objectives,
and facilitate communication and collaboration among, but not limited to program champions, the
Registrar’s Office, Student Success Office.
- Collaborates with Manager of Liaison to develop and implement training and orientation
for the Recruitment/Admissions Officers.
- Collaborates with the Manager of Liaison to seek insight on areas of research and the
development of a strategic college recruitment plan.
- Conduct site visits to Colleges to assess credibility and suitability for uWaterloo agreements;
develop and negotiate articulation agreements; monitor changes; evolve agreements; and when
appropriate engage uWaterloo representatives.
- Co-ordinate ongoing reviews of college curriculum to identify potential affinity programs
and accurately predict possible transfer credits.
The Manager works closely with the undergraduate academic advisors in the faculties/colleges,
and in consultation, with the appropriate Associate Deans, Admissions Committees, Undergraduate
Affairs Committees, and with the Associate Registrar, Admissions in this review process.
- Analyze data and conduct research to develop and enhance strategic plan and
faculty/program agreements.
- Work collaboratively with the Director, Student Experience and the Manager First-Year
Experience and conduct research which informs the development of a strategic plan for
college student transition and success
- Work collaboratively with Co-operative Education to conduct research which informs the
development of a strategic plan for college student transition and success in co-op.
- Provide strategic direction to the Project Manager, Marketing & Communications;
the Project Manager, Integrated & Interactive Media; and the Web & Systems Specialist
so that communication strategies achieve articulation agreement goals.
- Supervise co-op students or contract hires that may be hired from time to time.
Working Conditions
The Manager spends a portion of time travelling in Ontario.
The Manager participates in approximately 10-15 types of College visits per year and spends a
minimum cumulative time of 4-6 weeks working outside of the office.
The time spent traveling requires the Manager to live in hotels and spend time away from his/her family.
It necessitates putting personal/social activities on hold for the duration of some recruitment trips.
